Research projects and cooperations in the field of software testing

Updated edition Future of Testing (2017)
The speed at which technologies develop and change the world is increasing rapidly. Whether bioprinting, cobots or polytronics: what was considered merely a possibility a few years ago has already reached market maturity today. On behalf of imbus, futurologist Dr. Bernd Flessner has updated the starting position in the trend study "The Future of Testing" and further sharpened the scope of possibilities.  "The Future of Testing" is available free of charge in the download area.

Future of Testing (2014)
On behalf of imbus, the futurologist and science journalist Dr. Bernd Flessner has examined the future of software testing using empirical methods. The study summarizes the research results and the scenarios derived from them, which refer to the time periods "from 2020", "from 2035" and "from 2050".

MoReq (duration: 2006 - 2008)
MoReq2 is the new worldwide standard for Electronic Records Management Systems (ERMS). imbus developed the compliance test framework for this new standard. The test framework was approved by the European Commission in April 2008 and officially presented at the DLM Forum Members' Meeting conference.

TestBalance (duration: 2006 - 2009)
With TestBalance, an integrated procedure is being developed as part of the "Software Engineering 2006" research offensive, with which quality assurance measures in software development projects can be planned in an economically optimal way. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and coordinated by imbus AG as consortium leader. With the help of the procedure, QA and test managers are put in a position to plan quality assurance measures quantitatively and precisely in such a way that, taking into account the project framework conditions (budget, time, resources, etc.), an economic optimum can be achieved in terms of the QA costs to be incurred and the expected consequential costs of errors. As a combination of tools and methods, TestBalance should be used as universally as possible in development projects of both small and large software producing companies.

Modelware (duration: 2004 - 2006)
In the 6th Framework Research Program of the European Union, imbus participated in the two-year research project Modelware.  The goal of Modelware was to significantly increase the productivity of the software development process through the consistent application of Model Driven Development (MDD).
This approach is based on the use of models to describe various aspects of the software, from the definition of requirements to the implementation of tests. The contribution of imbus was to provide know-how in model-based testing.

PETS (duration: 2001 - 2003)
With PETS, another project was approved within the 5th European Research Program. imbus AG was the coordinator of this project.  The research goal was to improve the prediction models for software reliability and to make them usable for practical applications.

AGEDIS (duration: 2000 - 2004)
Within the 5th Framework Programme of the European Union, imbus participated in the three-year research project AGEDIS.   The research objective was to develop new methods and tools for model-based automated software testing. To this end, AGEDIS developed procedures for deriving test cases and test data directly from specifications and formal models.

PIE 24306 "GUI-Test" (Runtime: 1997 - 1998)
As part of the ESSI initiative of the European Union, imbus has carried out the PIE 24306 "GUI Test" project.
The topic was the implementation of a process improvement measure, in which the automation of tests on programs with graphical user interfaces was investigated.
